Jessica Campbell is a trailblazing hockey coach and the first woman to serve as a full-time assistant coach in NHL history. Currently behind the bench for the Seattle Kraken, Campbell continues to make history while breaking barriers in professional hockey.
A Canadian native, Campbell played Division I hockey in the United States for Cornell University. While in college, she also captained Canada’s Under-18 National Team in 2010 and led the team to a gold medal. At this tournament, she led all players in scoring and was named the Most Valuable Player.
Following her standout collegiate career, Campbell played professionally in the Canadien Women’s Hockey League and Sweden’s Damettan before retiring in 2017. After retirement, she launched her own coaching business, JC Powerskating, working with elite hockey players from North America and Europe.
Campbell’s coaching career gained momentum and she made history quickly. In 2021, she became the first woman to become a coach at the men’s IIHF World Championship. In 2022, she was hired as an assistant coach for the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the AHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken – becoming the first woman to hold a full-time coaching position in the AHL. In 2024, Campbell was named Assistant Coach of the Seattle Kraken, becoming the first woman to serve as a coach in NHL history.
