Marcellas Dial Jr.
New England Patriots Cornerback
Marcellas Dial Jr. was born in Woodruff, South Carolina, a small town where his path to football success was never guaranteed. Coming out of Woodruff High School, Dial had little to no college interest. He took the less traditional path and went to play at Georgia Military College, a junior college program.
After the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 season, Dial transferred to the University of South Carolina, where he quickly turned opportunity into production. He became a starter during his first season and developed into one of the Gamecocks’ top defensive backs. By 2022, he led the team in pass breakups and recorded three interceptions, earning SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors after his performance against Clemson. He built a reputation as a physical corner with the ability to make plays.
Dial was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he appeared in all 17 games and contributed on special teams while beginning to carve out a role in the secondary.
Dial’s story is shaped by resilience and personal motivation. He is family-oriented and married with a young daughter. From an overlooked high school player to an NFL draft pick, he continues to embrace every opportunity and rise to the moment.
