Jim Craig is an Olympic gold medalist, former NHL goaltender, business leader and motivational speaker best known for his central role in the United States’ historic “Miracle on Ice” victory at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games.
A native of North Easton, Massachusetts, Craig starred at Boston University and helped the Terriers win the 1978 NCAA championship. He later earned All-America honors and became the starting goaltender for the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team. At Lake Placid, Craig made 36 saves as the young American team defeated the heavily favored Soviet Union, 4–3, in one of the greatest upsets in sports history. Two days later, the United States defeated Finland to secure the gold medal.
Following the Olympics, Craig played professionally for the Atlanta Flames, Boston Bruins and Minnesota North Stars. After leaving professional hockey, he established a successful career in business and sales and became a highly sought-after speaker. He has used the lessons of the 1980 team to help organizations understand preparation, accountability, teamwork and the discipline required to perform at a high level.
