World Series Champion
Derek Lowe is a World Series champion and two-time MLB All-Star whose versatility allowed him to excel as both a closer and a starting pitcher. Best remembered for his years with the Boston Red Sox, Lowe delivered some of the most important performances in the franchise’s historic 2004 championship run.
Lowe emerged as one of baseball’s top relief pitchers in 2000, leading the American League with 42 saves and earning his first All-Star selection. After moving to the starting rotation, he won 21 games, started the 2002 All-Star Game and finished third in Cy Young Award voting. That same year, he threw a no-hitter at Fenway Park. In 2004, Lowe became the winning pitcher in the clinching game of the Division Series, American League Championship Series and World Series as the Boston Red Sox captured their first championship in 86 years.
Lowe continued his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers. He retired following the 2013 season with 176 career victories and more than 1,700 strikeouts. Lowe has remained connected to the game through alumni events, charitable programs and appearances celebrating the legacy of the 2004 Red Sox.
