Brian Boyle

Former NHL Player & Current Broadcaster

Brian Boyle is a former NHL forward, broadcaster, and cancer survivor whose 14-year professional career was defined by leadership, perseverance, and service to others. Raised in Hingham, Massachusetts, alongside 12 siblings, Boyle attended St. Sebastian’s School before becoming one of college hockey’s top players at Boston College. As team captain during his senior season, he helped lead the Eagles to another successful campaign while establishing himself as one of the nation’s premier collegiate players. He recorded 53 points in his senior season, earning consensus First-Team All-American honors and Hockey East First-Team recognition.

Selected 26th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Boyle began his professional hockey career in 2007 with the Manchester Monarchs, the Kings’ AHL affiliate, helping bolster the club’s playoff push while continuing his development at the professional level. During the 2017-18 season, Boyle’s character, resilience, and on-ice impact gained widespread recognition as a key member of the New Jersey Devils roster. Despite being diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia, Boyle returned to the ice and appeared in 69 games, recording 23 points during the season. In recognition of his perseverance and dedication to the game, he was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.

Following a decorated 14-year playing career that included more than 800 NHL games, Boyle transitioned into sports broadcasting after officially hanging up his skates. Today, he brings his extensive hockey knowledge and playing experience to his role as a studio analyst for NHL Network, regularly appearing on programs such as NHL Tonight. In addition to his national network presence, he serves as a regional broadcaster providing game-day insight and commentary for MSG Networks and NESN.

Boyle remains actively involved with Hockey Fights Cancer, sharing his personal journey and continuing to inspire patients and families across the country.
