Bill O’Brien is the head football coach at Boston College and an accomplished leader with extensive experience at the collegiate and professional levels. A Massachusetts native, O’Brien has built his career around developing players, constructing productive offenses and guiding organizations through periods of significant change.

O’Brien joined the New England Patriots in 2007 and rose to become offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. During his first Patriots tenure, he helped lead the team to multiple playoff appearances, an AFC championship and Super Bowl XLVI. He became head coach at Penn State in 2012, earning national recognition for stabilizing the program during an extraordinarily difficult period. O’Brien later spent seven seasons as head coach of the Houston Texans, winning four AFC South division titles.

His career has also included offensive leadership roles at Alabama, where he coached Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, and a return to the Patriots in 2023. In 2024, O’Brien was named the 37th head coach in Boston College football history, bringing his experience back to his home state.
